Game Vision Statement

 Game Genre

We've all heard of racing games and probably fewer people have heard of coin collecting games, but what would happen if a racing and coin collecting game were combined? This is what I will set out to explain (and hopefully achieve in later weeks!) in this Game Vision Statement blog post.

CoinRacer (title TBD) is a 3D race-against-the-clock style game that puts you in the driving seat of a very powerful sports car. How powerful you may ask? The car is so powerful that steering can even becomes a challenge... Given 120 seconds and an endless amount of fuel, CoinRacer sets the player one challenge: collect as many coins as possible before the time runs out while exploring a race track.


Gameplay

The player begins at the start of a seemingly straight forward track. Using the WASD keys to move and the SPACE button to brake the player can navigate the race track and collect coins along the way to add to their score. The score mechanic allows for players to keep track of how many coins they can collect before the timer runs out.

Each player has 120 seconds to collect as many coins as possible along the race track before the game is over. There is a stunt jump at the end which will allow the player to collect extra coins if they jump it successfully. If the players car flips over while moving (which may likely happen) they can press the R key to reset its position which will essentially flip the car back so that it is upright.

The aim of the game is to collect the most coins in 120 seconds. The vision for the game is that players will want to practice their skills and compete against their friends in an online leaderboard. If the leaderboard is too difficult for me the game designer to implement,  the use of the final score and game over message should allow for players to keep track of their own score before challenging their friends.

Platform

The game will be playable on Windows and Mac with a web version also available so that anyone with Unity Web player installed on other Operating systems can play too. I would love to see this game published on the iOS and Android operating systems some day but for now that will just be a stretch goal of the project.

                                                                                Design

CoinRacer is simpel but elegant in its design. The landscape is fairly barren to keep you focused on the task at hand, i.e. collecting as many coins as possible before the time runs out. The car itself is taken from the "ARCADE: FREE Racing Car" asset pack available for free on the Unity Store and uploaded by Mena. The background music and sound effects keep the player entertained and provide necessary feedback for when coins are collected etc.

Several tutorials will be required, mainly to help with writing the scripts and map design. They are as follows:

Conclusion

In conclusion, I have set out what I want to achieve with my game. I am looking forward to begin development and to publish it for the public to enjoy. I feel confident that I'll be able to deliver most if not all of what I have outlined above!
